Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Last updated:
Convert text to Base64 or decode it back, with an optional URL-safe alphabet — runs in your browser, nothing uploaded.
How it works
- Encode turns text into Base64 using the browser’s native
btoa, with a UTF-8-safe path so emoji and non-Latin characters round-trip correctly (plainbtoaonly handles Latin1 on its own). - Decode reverses that, and auto-detects whether the input uses the standard alphabet (
+/) or the URL-safe one (-_, no padding) — you don’t have to specify which. - URL-safe mode (encode only) swaps
+//for-/_and drops the trailing=padding — the RFC 4648 §5 alphabet used in URLs, filenames, and JWT segments (see the JWT Decoder).
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you paste here is uploaded, logged, or stored, and there’s no autosave. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can decode it, so it’s not a way to hide sensitive data.
